Algiers - APS
Speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa said Monday that the situation in Syria is “dramatic,” warning against the plans aimed at destabilizing the Arab world and diverting its attention from fundamental issues, at their head the Israeli occupation,” said the Lower House in a communiqué.
Terrorism is “now a common enemy of all people,” said Ould Khelifa in a meeting with the Speaker of the People’s Council of Syria (Parliament) Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, who is on a visit to Algeria, before focusing on Algeria’s experience during the decade of terrorism.
To fight terrorism, he said, “we must, on one hand, protect the people and on the other hand, dry up its sources by criminalizing notably the payment of ransoms.”
Speaker of the Lower House recalled Algeria’s efforts in the edification and reconstruction following the “success of civil concord policies and national reconciliation,” citing the reforms engaged by the President of the Republic notably “those relating to the promotion of women’s representation in elected assemblies and the development of the information and communication sector.”
“Algeria, which works to strengthen security and peace at the local, regional and Arab levels, is getting down, through serious and deep negotiations between Malian parties, to finding a consensual solution to the crisis in this country,” said Ould Khelifa.
The Speaker of the People’s Council of Syria (Parliament) Mohammad Jihad al-Laham arrived Sunday in Algiers for an official visit at the invitation of the Speaker of the Lower House.
