Moscow - MENA
Palestine's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) is an important decision as it would end the Israeli impunity before international law, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Mustafa Barghouti said on Wednesday.
In statements to the Russian news agency Sputnik, Barghouti said that the decision would deter Israel from waging any war against Palestinians.
The Palestinians joined the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Wednesday, in a politically charged move that will open the door to the possible prosecution of Israelis for alleged war crimes.
The Palestinian membership in the ICC would put more pressure on Israel and would impact the balance of power between the Palestinian people and Israel, he added.
