The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has congratulated the Egyptian people and leadership on the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, calling it a "historic achievement".

"Achieving the New Suez Canal project in a record time and amid perturbed circumstances ... stresses yet again the value and importance of having the will that can help confront challenges and make achievements for the sake of the peoples," a PFLP statement said Wednesday.

The PFLP, which is one of several Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) factions, expressed hope that the New Suez Canal would be the start of strategic projects that would serve as a strong basis for industrial and economic infrastructure and would restore Egypt's central role in defending Arab interests, particularly the Palestinians'.
