Police and army troops have succeeded in foiling a terrorist plot to seize control of Sheikh Zuwaid's police station in North Sinai, Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar said Friday.

Abdel Ghaffar paid tribute to officers and policemen at Sheikh Zuwaid's police station for their stubborn and courageous defense of their facility.

North Sinai witnessed fierce clashes between security forces and takfiris, who attacked many checkpoints in a botched attempt to seize control of entrances to and exits of Sheikh Zuwaid.

On Wednesday, the army killed 100 takfiris and terrorists during the clashes. Seventeen army troops died in the face-off.
