Palestinian man who stabbed an Israeli border police

An Israeli policemen was stabbed Wednesday by a Palestinian in a suspected "terror attack," Israeli officials said.

Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Xinhua that the suspect, armed with an ax or a knife, attacked a border police officer near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City.

"He was shouting as he ran towards a group of policemen, stabbing one of them. Police units arrested him at the scene," Rosenfeld said.

Israeli rescue service said the policeman was injured in his leg.

The incident occurred amidst surging violence between Israelis and Palestinians in the city, mainly due to tensions around the al-Aqsa mosque, the third-holiest site for Muslims and the holiest site for Jews, who revered it as the Temple Mount.
