A more active role by Al Azhar was urged by Port Said Governor Magdy Nasr Eddin to combat extremism among young people.

Addressing a meeting with a delegation of the World Association For Al Azhar Graduates, Nasr Eddin said false ideas on Islam are exploited by terrorist group to influence youths.

The society seeks cooperation with the governorate to spread awareness about true religion. Activities including a series of symposiums at schools and colleges will be eyed, he added.

Preachers and scholars will partake in the planned events.
