President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has promulgated two presidential decrees on pardon measures for detainees on the occasion of the celebration of the 52nd anniversary of national Independence, said Friday the Presidency of the Republic in a communiqué.
These two decrees, promulgated in accordance with the powers conferred upon him under Article 77-9 of the Constitution, are on "collective pardon measures for definitively convicted detainees and non-detained persons.”
These measures also concern "definitively convicted prisoners who attended education and vocational training classes in prison and successfully passed the examinations of the intermediate, secondary and university education levels as well as the different modes of vocational training during 2013-2014 school and academic year," the source said.
However, "prisoners sentenced for acts related to those mentioned in the order on the implementation of the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation, as well as prisoners convicted of committing or attempting to commit some specifically listed acts, particularly acts of terrorism, will not benefit from these measures," the communiqué said.
