President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika underlined Algeria’s "consistent" position in favour of the Palestinian people and its legitimate rights notably "the right to establish an independent and sovereign State within 4 June 1967 frontiers with al-Quds as capital."
In a letter sent to the UN Committee for the exercise of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, President Bouteflika wished that "this annual mobilization will be used to raise the awareness of the international public opinion concerning this cause and remind the international community, including the UN about to its historical responsibility to bring justice to this people and all the peoples which are still under the colonial yoke."
"We hail the proclamation by the UN of 2014 year of the solidarity with the Palestinian people, which grants a particular dimension to this day of mobilization as it constitutes for us a strong signal demonstrating a growing support to the just cause of the Palestinian people. In this regard, the commitment of the Non-Aligned Movement, during its XVII ministerial conference held in Algiers in May 2014, to accompany the Palestinian State it its approach aiming at exercising the full sovereignty is another illustration," said the Head of State.
The President said that the policy of colonization and Judaization of the city of Al Quds and the unjust blockade on the Gaza Strip were now "the main obstacle to the efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue," stressing that "the Palestinian population, especially in Gaza are deprived of their most basic rights."
