Qena - MENA
Qena governor Abdel Hamid el Haggan congratulated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the inauguration of the New Suez Canal Thursday.
The New Suez Canal is one of the greatest projects to be implemented in the modern era, Haggan said.
It will contribute to increasing the number of ships transiting the canal in both directions without delay, the governor said.
Haggan believes real development will be achieved in the Gulf of Suez, with employment rates upping. This, he added, will also help achieve a quantum leap in the Middle East region and the Arab world.
"Digging the new canal with Egyptian hands and funding in such a short time is a human miracle by all means," Haggan said. "It is a proof Egyptians can make achievements and miracles."
The Egyptian people were able to collect 64 billion pounds in just eight days, which reflects their nationalist feelings and unity behind their leadership, according to Haggan.
The opening of the New Suez Canal will increase revenues from the waterway, and employment rates are likely to up to about one million new jobs, the governor said.
The project will also help attract foreign investments in the fields of maritime industry and trade, Haggan added.
