Egypt's resigned agriculture minister Salah Helal was arrested Monday, an official source told MENA.

Helal was arrested by the Administrative Control Authority over corruption allegations just after his resignation was accepted.

The source said that the resigned minister would appear before the prosecution within hours.

Helal is accused of being involved in a major corruption case in the agriculture ministry, the source added.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab accepted the resignation of Helal upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah al- Sisi.
