Saudi Arabia on Friday welcomed a decision by the Syrian High Negotiations Committee (HNC) to join peace talks opened in Geneva.

The participation in Geneva talks comes in line with the UNSC resolution no. 2254, said an official at the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

The official renewed Riyadh's support to a political solution in Syria according to outcomes of the Geneva 1 conference.

Earlier, the HNC has said it will join peace talks in Geneva to discuss only humanitarian files.
