Cairo - MENA
Cairo Criminal Court has adjourned until February 24 the ruling in the retrial of former prime minister Ahmed Nazif and former interior minister Habib el Adli on charges of squandering public funds.
Both are accused of awarding a contract worth 92 million pounds for the manufacture of licence plates to a German firm without putting it up for public tender as stipulated by law.
The retrial started after the Cassation Court had annulled an original ruling sentencing Nazif to a one-year suspended term and Adli to five years in prison.
Former finance minister Youssef Boutros Ghali had been sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison in the same case.
The legal representative of the German company had also been sentenced in absentia to a suspended one-year term
