Saudi Arabia strongly condemns the assassination of Egypt's Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat in a terrorist attack on his motorcade on Monday, Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmad Al Jubeir said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Kingdom stands by Egypt in its war against terrorism threatening the country's security and stability, he added.

He described the attack that targeted Egypt's top prosecutor as a cowardly act, asserting it goes against with tolerant teachings of Islam and all heavenly religions.

He offered his country's condolences to Barakat's family and the Egyptian leadership, wishing speedy recovery for the injured in this heinous attack.
