Cairo - Arab Today
Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al Jubeir on Sunday said the kingdom would take additional steps if Iran continues its aggression and violations against his country.
In a joint press conference with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Cairo and Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil el Araby in Cairo, Jubeir stressed that the offensive against the Saudi embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Mashhad were results of Iranian aggressive statements and incitement policy against Saudi Arabia and its interference in the kingdom's internal affairs.
Jubeir thanked the Arab League Council for its rapid response to a request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to hold extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers which came in the wake of blatant attacks on the Saudi diplomatic mission in Iran under the eyes of the Iranian government without any effort to stop these attacks or respond to the continuous calls of the Kingdom's mission.
These attacks came after aggressive statements against the Kingdom and are a clear violation of all international treaties and conventions, the minister said.
He added that that these attacks clearly reflect a behavior of the Iranian politics in the Arab region to tamper the Arab capabilities, interfere in its affairs, incite sectarian sedition, destabilize security and stability.
Jubeir stressed that Iran has no right to speak out for Shiite minorities in the region because they are Arab citizens.
If Iran wants to have a positive role in the region, it should deal with its neighbors in accordance with the principles of good neighborliness, stop interference in the affairs of others and reject terrorism, he added.
