A Saudi citizen was reportedly killed and a child was injured in a shooting that took place in al Awamiya town in al Qatif, eastern Saudi Arabia, Sunday night.

A police force was on duty when it came under heavy fire, the media spokesman for the Eastern Province Police said, adding that one citizen was killed and an 8-year-old child wounded.

The child was moved to hospital and his condition is stable, the spokesman said.

The police force was inspecting a robbery scene in al Awamiya town, he noted.
