Authorities at the Sudanese Red Sea State in cooperation with the Egyptian Naval Rescue Unit continued search operations for the fourth day running for the Egyptian fishermen who went missing when their boat sank off the Sudanese waters with 14 crew members on board.
In statements to MENA, Egypt's Consul General in Port Sudan Hani Bassiouni said hopes of finding the fishermen alive are fading, noting that search operations off al Sa'abat island covered 100 nautical miles south Port Sudan harbor.
He said search operations for the missing fishermen have become futile as they covered the coastal areas of Sudan and Eritrea.
An Egyptian fishing boat carrying 14 people sank off the Sudanese shores four days ago. Two of the crew were rescued while search is still continued for the others missing.
The fishermen chief in Suez Bakri Abu al-Hassan said 14 Egyptian fishermen were trapped inside al-Saba’at area in the Sudanese territorial waters after being swept away by strong winds, pointing that two fishermen managed to reach the Sudanese border guards.
