Security forces have detected a terror cell affiliated with Ansar Beit al Maqdes group in Gesr El Suez district of Cairo, spokesman for the Interior Ministry Hany Abdel Latif said on Friday.
Members of the cell are accused of carrying out a number of terror attacks and targeting police and army personnel, as well as plotting to conduct another set of terror attacks during the coming period.
Abdel Latif said police managed to locate members of the terror cell while riding a car in Abou Regeila district of Cairo. They opened fire at the policemen while trying to flee the area, he added.
Three policemen and two passers-by were injured during the exchange of fire while two members of the terror cell were killed.
A number of firearms and ammunition were seized with the cell members and also in the apartment that they were using to plot for their attacks, Abdel Latif further said.
