Security measures were beefed up in Qena Governorate ahead of Easter celebrations, a senior security official said on Saturday.

More checkpoints were set up near churches and plainclothes officers will be mingling with the crowds, Security Chief Adel Abdel Aziem said.

He added that police forces are on alert to foil any attempt to disrupt the celebrations.
