Commander of Anbar Operations Command Major General Qasim al Mohammadi was injured in clashes with Daesh militants in northern Iraq's Ramadi city, Deputy President of Anbar Provincial Council Faleh al Essawy announced on Sunday.

Al Arabiya quoted al Essawy as saying that the Anbar commander sustained leg injuries after the fall of a mortar shell fired by the group militants near a gathering point of the Iraqi armed forces in the northern axis of Ramadi.

Earlier, Daesh terrorists have targeted a military convoy in an area in northern Ramadi city with light and medium weapons which prompted the Iraqi security force to exchange fire with the militants.

The clashes resulted in killing four Daesh militants and two Iraqi soldiers.

Iraq has been in turmoil since the ouster of Saddam Hussein during the US invasion of the country nearly 13 years ago.
