The public prosecution released Zohdy el Shamy, Vice President of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, pending investigation into a march last week.
The rally was staged in Talaat Harb Square in downtown Cairo on the fourth anniversary of the January 25 revolution.
Party member Shaimaa el Sabbagh was shot dead during the rally.
