A police brigadier general was killed in an armed attack in Arish late on Saturday, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Gunmen opened fire at Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Sattar near Arish police station, the statement said.

Security forces launched a manhunt for the attackers.
