Kuwait - KUNA
Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah said Tuesday the Kuwaiti youths made outstanding achievements in various fields of voluntary action.
"Voluntary action is deep-rooted among the benevolent youths of Kuwait who use their leisure time in useful actions to benefit the country and humanitarian work," he told KUNA tonight on the sidelines of a celebration to mark the 10th anniversary of the Voluntary Work Center (VWC).
The ceremony was held under auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh said the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is working on a work to organize voluntary action.
"The planned ministerial law will specify the legal identity of a volunteer and the entity for which they work," she said.
"The ministry is keen on supervising the fund-raising agencies and works to allocate an auditor for each agency which collects large funds in order to verify the beneficiaries," she affirmed.
On her part, VWC Chairperson Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said the Center made outstanding achievements and its projects and membership doubled in the last decade.
"The growing participation of male and female volunteers in the Center's activities highlighted the need to establish a mechanism for regulating the voluntary and philanthropic actions in order to organize the contributions to the relevant sectors of the community," she said.
Sheikha Amthal commented the voluntary action as a basic humanitarian feature of civilized communities which helps enhance unity and solidarity among all segments of the society.
He extolled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his constant support to the VWC activities and the youth volunteers.
