Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hailed the Egyptian- Eritrean relations as strong and deeply-rooted, noting that Egypt seeks to further boost ties with its African allies.

The visit aims to give a push to the bilateral ties and the development efforts in Eritrea, he said upon his arrival in Asmara late Wednesday.

"It will also be a good opportunity to discuss regional issues and the challenges facing the continent," he added.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki visited Egypt in late last year.
