President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday congratulated the Egyptian people on the national football team's victory over Ghana in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

"I extend my sincere congratulations to the Egyptian team for winning", the president posted on Facebook. 

Sisi also congratulated the Egyptian spectators for their civilized support of the national team. 

Earlier in the day, the Egyptian national team defeated Ghana 2-0 in the game played at the Borg El Arab Stadium.

Mohamed Salah netted for Egypt from a penalty in Minute 43 while Abdullah el-Said added in the 86th minutes. 

With six points in the pocket, the Pharaohs top Group E which includes also Uganda and Congo.

The remaining four rounds are scheduled between August and November 2017 with the group winners qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
