President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the chairman of the current Arab summit session, on Saturday met with Secretary-General of Arab League Nabil El Araby and Army Chief-of-Staff Mahmoud Hegazy.

Presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said Sisi reviewed a draft protocol of establishing an Arab joint force in implementation of a resolution of the recent Arab summit in Sharm El Sheikh.

The AL chief said the draft protocol was amended after consultations between the Arab countries during meeting of the chiefs of staff.

Amendments proposed by some Arab countries have been included, he said.

The Arab joint force aims at providing a rapid military intervention to confront challenges that threaten the Arab security, safety and national sovereignty.

During the meeting, Hegazy briefed Sisi on the outcome of the discussions held between the Arab chiefs of staff, proposed operational procedures and the mechanisms of action.

The president ordered the draft protocol to be sent on the AL member states in coordination with the presidency of the previous and next summits to be presented to a meeting of the joint Arab defense council to approve it.
