President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held Sunday a meeting with Transport Minister Hani Dahi to discuss efforts to raise sunken ships and tow them to Alexandria Seaport, said Spokesman for the Presidency Alaa Yousef.

Dahi briefed Sisi on the ongoing efforts to recover sunken ships in preparation for their storage ahead of the inauguration of development works at Alexandria Shipyard Company.

Dahi also reviewed steps taken by Alexandria Port Authority to facilitate the refloating of of ships in coordination with the Naval forces.

Twenty ships are to be recovered, and as of this week, seven of them will be broken up, he said.

Dahi took up the latest developments regarding the establishment of an electric train line, which will be implemented in collaboration with a major Chinese public company specialized in this field.

Dahi briefed the president on the work progress of 13 road projects carried out by the ministry nationwide. He said 1,250 km out of 3,400 km have already been built, reiterating that the ministry was exerting utmost efforts finalize the work.

President Sisi praised the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Transport, calling for hard work to complete the projects by August 6.

The meeting tackled a plan floated by the ministry to develop the railway sector, said Yousef.

Dahi expounded the ongoing projects to develop stations, level crossings and electrical signals’ system and renew the railway infrastructure.
