South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda and Vatican Ambassador to Egypt Corian Matthew opened Sunday Virgin Mary Church in Sharm el Sheikh.
The opening was attended by South Sinai security chief Hatem Ameen along with a host of governorate's officials and bishops.
The governor and the ambassador also unveiled the Virgin Mary statue from behind curtain.
The statue is a unique piece of art and a gift from the Vatican.
