Sahel region

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU) developed, in Addis Ababa, a strategy on the security in the Sahel countries, formulating recommendations aimed at addressing this sensitive issue.
The main lines of this strategy include the promotion of the regional cooperation in security through the process of Nouakchott, the participation in its deepening and the support of the programmes of disarmament, demobilization and socio- economic reintegration of the armed groups of Northern Mali.
The strategy focuses also on the participation in the reform programmes of security sector in the region of the Sahel and cooperation with the partners in the security field.
Regarding the first three parts, the drafters of the strategy called particularly for ensuring information sharing, following up and implementing recommendations as well as the adoption of the strategy by the countries of the region.
