The general elections will be held on April 13 as scheduled, Sudan's presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour said Friday.
Ghandour, who is also the vice president of the ruling National Congress Party, stressed that there was no possibility to postpone the elections, as they were the only proof of the legitimacy of any government.
He revealed that many international entities made several contacts with Khartoum to urge it to delay or cancel the elections, but the government and his party always refused such demands.
With 44 different parties competing, Ghandour described the coming elections as "unprecedented" in Sudan's history.
