Syrian army troops in cooperation with popular defense groups have controlled the hills and checkpoints in the surroundings of northern Latakia countryside, according to a military source.

The Syrian New Agency (SANA) quoted the source as saying that the army destroyed a vehicle for Daesh militants in surroundings of Ayash villlage in the western Deir Azour district.

The Syrian army units have made advances in the hills overlooking Latakia and forced Daesh militants to withdraw from their positions.
