A Syrian army unit on Saturday killed 40 gunmen in Zabdani city, northwest Damascus, according to a Syrian military source.

The Syrian News Agency, quoting the source, said the army unit ambushed the militants leaving 40 elements dead and others injured.

The army destroyed large quantities of arms and ammunition during the operation.

Also, units from the Syrian army targeted three armed groups and demolished their weapons in fierce clashes that took place on Friday in the surroundings of Zabdani City
