Syrian opposition delegation arrives in Geneva for peace talks

Syria's opposition delegation arrived in Geneva Saturday to take part in a fresh round of the UN-mediated peace talks aimed at ending the five-year conflict in the country.

The 17-member delegation, representing main opposition parties, is scheduled to meet Sunday with UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura in a preliminary meeting before rounds of indirect negotiations between delegations of the government and opposition, slated for Monday.

Geneva talks began Friday with a meeting between de Mistura and a Syrian government delegation headed by the country's UN ambassador Bashar Jaafari.
