A scrap dealer was shot dead on Saturday while trying to rescue his father-in-law from a group of abductors in Menoufiya.
A gang of 12 jobless and registered criminals stormed the father-in-law's house to get an automatic rifle and an amount of narcotics he had taken from one of them.
The dealer intervened in a bid to rescue the man but the criminals shot him dead on the spot and kidnapped his father-in-law.
Menoufiya police have arrested eight suspects during a security crackdown.
The public prosecution launched an investigation into the incident.
