Tunis - Arab Today
Canada's Ambassador in Tunisia Carol McQueen said Friday that Tunisia has officially asked the Canadian government to order deportation of Belhassen Trabelsi, the brother-in-law of former Tunisian dictator Zine el Abidine Ben Ali.
During an interview with Mosaïque FM radio station, the diplomat said that Trabelsi is wanted by the Tunisian government because of criminal charges he faces in Tunisia.
According to the Canadian laws, Trabelsi's solicitor has the right to challenge the request, the ambassador added.
The legal action has its time that should be taken to reach a final decision, she said.
Trabelsi has been living in Montreal since 2011 and Tunis says he is accused of serious political crimes. He was denied request for refugee status over the charges.
