Tunisia welcomed the arrival of the Libyan national unity government to Tripoli, considering it an important step with regard to activating the political process in the crisis-hit country.
A statement by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry on Thursday said the move comes in line with the text of the final communiqué of the eighth ministerial meeting of the neighboring countries.
Tunisia called on all the Libyan parties concerned to support the unity government and assist it to carry out its duties and be able to face the terrorist threats, secure national borders and improve the living standards of the Libyan people.
The statement also called on Libyan citizens to resume dialogue and consultations to accelerate a peaceful transition of power.
Tunisia will continue to support the Libyan people until achieving their goals, the statement added.
Libya’s Presidential Council under Prime Minister Fayz Sarraj and seven members of the Government of National Accord arrived on Wednesday from Tunisia at the Bu-Sitta naval base aboard a Libyan naval vessel. They were received by newly appointed Minister of Interior Araf al Khouja.
In December, Libya’s rival governments agreed to create a Government of National Accord and end the political struggle that began after the 2011 overthrow of then-president Muammar Gaddafi.
