Beji Caid Essebsi

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Sunday extended for another month the state of emergency as of Monday February 22.

The decision was taken after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of the People’s Representatives (HPR) on issues related to national security notably the situation in the borders and in the region, a statement by the Tunisian presidency said.

The state of emergency was decreed in Tunisia on November 24 following a terror attack against a presidential guard bus in Tunis, that killed 12.

On December 22, the state of emergency was extended for another two months.
