Abu Dhabi - Arab Today
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has received fifteen prisoners who were detained in Guantanamo Bay, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement today.
The Ministry announced in a statement carried by the Emirates WAM news agency that, following negotiations between its officials and U.S. officials in the recent months, and at an official request from the United States, the United Arab Emirates has received fifteen prisoners who were detained in Guantanamo Bay.
The United Arab Emirates agreed to allow these prisoners to enter its territory for humanitarian reasons.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation added that the United Arab Emirates hopes that this step, due to its humanitarian dimension, would help these individuals and their families through the rehabilitation programme launched in November 2015, when the United Arab Emirates, based on its consideration of the circumstances that Yemen is going through, received five Yemeni citizens who were detained in Guantanamo Bay WAM reported.
