The General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) called for constitutionalizing union activity and the right to strike in order to strengthen trade union rights, and suggested the establishment of a semi-presidential system, UGTA General Secretary, Abdelmajid Sidi Said said on Wednesday.
Sidi Said, accompanied by a large delegation, stressed said in a statement to the press after a meeting with the Minister of State, Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic, Ahmed Ouyahia, who conducts consultations on the revision of the Constitution, that all 52 UGTA's proposals aim to strengthen trade union activity and socio-professional rights of citizens.
Also, Sidi Said noted the trade union center offers "the constitutionalization of the national guaranteed minimum wage (SNMG), social dialogue, the National Economic and Social Council (CNES), the equality between man and women in the political and professional areas of collective bargaining and union representation in private and foreign companies."
UGTA Secretary General dubbed "responsible action" the contribution of UGTA to the future Algerian constitution, stressing the importance of participation in this process, of all political trends, despite differences in the positions and opinions.
"We must work for a single goal, building Algeria and consolidation of the democratic process," he affirmed.
