United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said he hopes that Russia’s decision to withdraw its forces from Syria will give an impetus to the new round of the intra-Syrian talks that started on Monday in Geneva.

According to his spokesman Ahmed Fawzy, de Mistura said the Russian announcement was a significant development, hoping it will have a positive impact on the progress of negotiations aimed at a political solution.
