Pope Francis expressed hope that the agreements reached in Libya and Syria would help the two countries reach peace.

In a statement, the pope lauded efforts of peace negotiators in Libya where peace talks took place under the sponsorship of the United Nations to form a national unity government.

The deal was concluded on Thursday.
