The electoral process is going smoothly in Sudan where people are voting in the general and presidential elections, police said.

Sudanese authorities made preparations for the worst case scenario and deployed 70.000 policemen to secure the electoral process, according to senior security official.

Voting began early on Monday and will continue for three days.

Sixteen candidates are running for the presidency including incumbent president, Omar al Bashir.
