The World Food Program (WFP) has announced the start of distributing food assistance for the first time to Iraqi refugees in Baghdad, said a statement issued by the program in Geneva on Wednesday.
Pre-paid food coupons are being distributed on refugees in Soran District, Arbil governorate as well to give them the freedom to choose their food needs, added the program.
German ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has contributed with $1.9 million to fund food coupons given to Iraqi refugees.
Another 1,500 metric tons of food were donated by Australia for the displaced Iraqi families.
Emergency operations in Iraq are still in need of about $267 million until December, 2015, added WFP.
