Yemen political powers have resumed talks in a bid to work out a solution for the political crisis in the country and avoid looming civil war, according to sources close to the talks.
The source said participants in the talks, which wrapped up late Monday, agreed on holding talks in the Qatari capital of Doha.
The participants have suggested talks to be held in Muscat, but a consensus was reached on convening it in Doha.
Yemen's embattled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has asked Gulf countries to intervene against Shiite rebels who have seized the capital and are advancing toward his new base in the south, his foreign minister told Saudi media Monday.
The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council -- Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain -- warned earlier this year that they would act to protect the Arabian Peninsula's security and described the Houthi takeover of parts of Yemen as a "terrorist" act.
