A Yemeni army officer survived on Friday an assassination attempt by militants in Lahij governorate in the south of the country.
Gunmen on a motorcycle fired at the intelligence officer while he was getting out of a mosque following Friday prayers, a security source said.
The source added the officer was wounded and moved to hospital.
The militants fled the scene, the source said.
Al Qaeda militants have been targeting Yemeni army and police officers with explosive devices. Scores of officers have been killed in such attacks.
