Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al Mikhlafi

The Yemeni government is keen on attaining peace and will spare no effort to render the upcoming consultations uccessful, said Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al Mikhlafi.

Yemen peace talks are scheduled to be held under the auspices of the UN in Kuwait on April 18.

This came during his meeting yesterday with a UN delegation.

Mikhlafi, meanwhile, said that the government is ready for the upcoming round of talks and is working with the UN envoy to Yemen in order to attain peace and restore legitimacy.

The UN envoy has encouraged the parties to engage constructively in the talks, including on the areas of the withdrawal of militias and armed groups, interim security arrangements, the restoration of state institutions and the resumption of inclusive political dialogue.

The security situation in Yemen has deteriorated since March 2015, when war broke out between Houthi group, supported by former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh, and the government, backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition.
