Kuwait Zakat House has carried out 95 charity projects, valued at KD one million, in 20 countries in the past five months, Director General Ibrahim Al-Saleh announced Thursday.
One of these projects is the distribution of Iftar meals in 29 Arab and Muslim countries, which amounted to KD 100,000, Al-Saleh pointed out.
He added that Zakat House has sponsored 26,700 orphans until June of 2014. Orphan sponsorship projects are one of the most important projects executed by the institute. These projects have been launched by the Zakat House in 1983. They aim at providing social, educational, and health care to orphans.
Orphans sponsorship is carried out through 77 credited charity institutes in 37 countries, he explained.
Meanwhile, financial aid that is offered to underprivileged families inside the country has reached KD 2.5 million since June 2014; at least 5,913 families are benefiting from this aid.
One of the projects that Zakat House carries out annually is the "Ramadan Parcel" where food items are given to families supported by the House.
Zakat House was established in 1982. It is a public body with an independent budget with a legal personality and submits to the supervision of the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. It aims at collecting and distributing Zakat and charities by the best, most efficient and legally permissible ways that suit the rapid progression and the needs of the society.
