Tokyo stocks rose slightly in the morning session of Friday, as the yen's depreciation against the U. S. dollar gave a boost to export-related shares.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 26.30 points, or 0.17 percent, from Thursday to 15,702.48.
Meanwhile, the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 0.13 point, or 0.01 percent, at 1,296.26.
Major gainers included automakers, rubber products and insurance shares.
