Total foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities dropped in June for the third consecutive month, the Treasury Department said Thursday. In June, overall foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities reached 5.6006 trillion U.S. dollars, down 1.0 percent from the revised 5.6571 trillion dollars in May. According to the Treasury International capital report, China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasury securities, trimmed its holdings from 1.2973 trillion dollars in May to 1.2758 trillion dollars in June. Japan, the second largest foreign holder of U.S. government debt, reduced its holdings from 1.1037 trillion dollars in May to 1.0834 trillion dollars in June.
