The United Kingdom Accreditation Association Services (UKAS) has praised the level of development achieved by Sharjah Municipality laboratories. The delegation made a 2-day visit to Sharjah in order to renew the laboratories\' Certificates of International Accreditation. Najla Ali Al Mualla, head of the Food Laboratory Section at the Municipality, stated that the delegation included a number of British experts who were briefed on work procedures in the department, as well as methods and mechanisms of supervision in the Municipality. Al Mualla stated that the experts confirmed their trust in the Central Laboratories for the renewal of the International Accreditation Certificate following a full evaluation of the systems, practiced standards, tools used, sample-acquiring methods and staff supervision in the lab. Al Mualla mentioned that the laboratory was the first of its kind in the Middle East to receive the prestigious certificate from the Association in 1999. She added that the delegation praised the efforts of the municipality, making the Sharjah facility a remarkable example in the region. The UKAS certificate will furnish the laboratory with a number of privileges, such as internationally accrediting the results of analysis of imported food cargos without complication and elevating performance in laboratories affiliated to foodstuff preparation and supply, which in turn will develop the food production industry as a whole.
