Iranians protest against German-based rapper

“A number of family members of martyrs and war veterans” will gather in front of the German embassy protesting against an Iranian rap singer who lives in Germany and has allegedly insulted Islamic saints, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday. The gathering will start at 5pm, Mehr added. Several Iranian religious authorities have issued religious edicts against Shahin Najafi who released a song decrying the situation in his homeland Iran. The "fatwas" published in the Iranian media say any insult against Islamic saints is blasphemy, a crime which according to Sharia (Islamic law) is punishable by death. Diplomatic missions to Tehran have often been targeted in the past by angry protesters who throw stones and even petrol bombs. The last major incident was the ravaging of the British embassy and its residence compounds in Tehran last year by a small group of university students protesting against Britain's policy towards Iran.
